Prime Language Services is happy to present a free Russian lesson, the subject of which is “Thank you in Russian”. So how would one say Thank you in Russian? How would one say Thank you very much in Russian? Do Russians use it in any special way? When is it appropriate?
The word is super easy to learn and to pronounce. And in addition to this short article we have recorded a video for you. Watch it and feel free to post any comments and questions. Your ideas on other videos you would like to see recorded are appreciated as well. Enjoy!
Russians use “Thank you” in all the same situations as in other countries. If you are grateful and would like to express it, you can either say СПАСИБО, pronounced as SPAH-SEE-BAH, which means THANK YOU or you can also say БОЛЬШОЕ СПАСИБО, pronounced as BAHL-SHOH-YE SPAH-SEE-BAH, which means THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Note that literally you are saying “big thank you”. Большой (bahl-shoy) in Russian stands for big or grand. Most of you heard of Большой Театр (Bolshoy Theatre) in Moscow, the capital of Russia. It means Grand Theater and uses the same word we use when saying “thanks so much”.
If you are traveling to Russia, Belarus, Ukraine or other Russian speaking country even knowing a single word, such as SPAH-SEE-BAH will earn you great respect as you will show your desire to help and share Russian culture. If you show Russians that you are really interested and make an attempt to speak their language, it will help you a long way!
Hopefully you found our Russian Lesson on how to say “Thank you in Russian” helpful. If something was not clear or you have questions, post your comments. We encourage any feedback! In addition to “Thank you in Russian” video, we are happy to record other videos you might be interested in watching.
